Job Summary:
The Director of the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) provides leadership for the office of SISS and for the larger WesternU campus community with regard to the comprehensive experience of international students and scholars at WesternU.
The Director of SISS provides leadership and services to ensure that WesternU provides the best possible experience for international students and scholars. Working collaboratively with departments across campus, the Director assists in maximizing the effectiveness of recruitment and admissions, orientation, student services, employee support, academic support, cultural integration, and compliance with visa and employment regulations and policies. The Director designs and implements programming to support international students and scholars directly and assists other departments with designing and implementing programming and policy across the organization.

Knowledge of immigration laws and federal and state regulations pertaining to student visas, optional practical training (OPT), employment-based visas, SEVIS and other relevant international agencies, programs, and systems in a higher education setting. 4. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in a cross-cultural environment with sensitivity to the diversity and complexity of international students, employees, and guest researchers. 5. Ability to use sound professional judgment in the interpretation and application of federal regulations, adequately documenting the decision-making process. 6. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and be flexible in job assignments while maintaining strict deadlines and confidentiality. 7. Demonstrates superior judgment with ability to approach complex problems logically and systematically. 8. Highly effective verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to give presentations/conduct training sessions. 9. Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with an ability to prioritize, track and follow-up on assigned tasks. 10. Strong computer/technology proficiency including Microsoft Office applications, Banner and any other software program required by this position.
Required Qualifications:
-Education: Any combination of education, training or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
-Experience: 2-5 years of experience with international services in a higher education setting.
-ESL certification or the ability to assess written and oral English language proficiency.
List comments regarding work hours:
Typically Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Occasional weekends and evenings required
