Job Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Admissions; manages, directs, and coordinates the strategic planning and implementation of on- and off-campus underrepresented student recruitment for both assigned programs and general graduate populations. Provide leadership to the professional staff in the University’s efforts to increase the number of under-represented students in collaboration with various departments on campus, including the HEART office, offices of the academic deans, program chairs and co-curricular offices. In addition, the successful admissions counselor exhibits superior customer service skills and professionalism throughout daily interactions and communications with students including interviews, phone calls, emails, and information sessions. Works closely with the associate directors of admission and admission committees. The admission counselor must work independently as well as collaboratively with team members, faculty, students, alumni, administrators, and staff. With general guidance from the director of admission and the direct supervisor, admission counselor III creates and implements recruitment strategies to reach prospective students through events, referrals, online and print communications, and outreaches to businesses and organizations.

Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. 1. Must be willing and able to travel by plane and automobile to conduct recruitment business. Occasional weekend and evening projects. 2. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and outside contacts. Requires oral presentation skills 3. Computer proficient (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database management programs) and familiar with electronic communication strategies. 4. Must have the maturity and adaptability to be team oriented and yet be able to work independently with minimal supervision 5. Should possess a good understanding of higher education and issues related to student affairs.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience -Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and ability.
- Minimum of three to four years of experience in university admissions and recruitment or a similar recruitment setting.
- Experience working with diverse populations is required.
Must have a willingness to travel as needed during peak recruiting seasons. - Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.
