Position Title: Digital Preservation Specialist
Campus: Western University Campus-Pomona, CA
Under the direction of the University Archivist, the Digital Preservation Specialist will maintain media equipment, make appropriate reformatting and digitizing decisions, and develop in-house workflows in support of preservation, description, long-term storage, and access of University moving images.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Individual must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities to be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities: Knowledge of moving image digitization procedures, workflows, storage, and migration. Ability to operate and maintain specialized and sometimes obsolete video recording equipment. Knowledge of videotape formats, video tape composition and deterioration, and preservation techniques. Knowledge of basic metadata schema and thesauri. Basic competence with office application in Microsoft environment. Competence using Adobe Premiere.
EDUCATION: Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. EXPERIENCE: Two years direct work experience or training in audiovisual preservation.
An MLIS with a concentration in Archives or a certificate in moving image archiving and preservation.
