The city of San Dimas Recreation (245 E Bonita Ave, San Dimas, CA 91773) is looking for street maintenance workers.
Under general supervision, cleans, maintains and repairs City streets, sewer lines, drains, catch basins, storm drains, traffic signs and related public works facilities throughout the City; and performs related duties as required
Expectations:
1. Cleans and repairs streets, sewer lines, storm drains, parking lots, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, alleys and traffic signs throughout the City.
2. Assists with the raising and lowering of manhole covers.
3. Shovels and spreads asphalt in patching, repairing and reconstructing streets.
4. Installs, repairs, and replaces culverts and storm drains.
5. Uses concrete cutting and breaking equipment; operates a jackhammer; constructs concrete forms, pours concrete and assists with finish concrete and masonry work.
6. Performs rough carpentry work.
7. Assists in the maintenance of traffic control systems including painting and striping City streets and curbs as well as installing City signposts and signs.
8. Assists in building and repainting walls and other structures.
9. Assists with repairing City-maintained street light systems.
10. Responds to emergency situations in the City as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: Methods and techniques of construction, maintenance and repair used to maintain streets, sewers and related public works facilities; pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations; operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in the assigned area of responsibility; safe work practices; and the principles and procedures of record keeping.
Ability to: Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction and maintenance of City streets and public works, including basic carpentry, masonry and painting tasks; operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner in routine situations including skip loaders, tractors and/or street sweepers; use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner; read and interpret basic maps and blueprints; perform heavy manual labor; work safely with dangerous materials; learn various cleaning and repairing techniques; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Education/Training/Experience: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way in which to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Two or more years of streets, sanitation, and public works maintenance or construction work experience. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: A valid California driver’s license issued from the California Department of Motor Vehicles for the type of vehicles or equipment operated in the course of employment is required.
